NAPH Submits Comments to IRS on Additional Requirements for Charitable Hospitals - Sept. 25, 2012

NAPH submitted comments on Sept. 24 to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on a proposed rule that serves to implement requirements in the Affordable Care Act for tax-exempt hospitals. The proposed regulations provide guidance for charitable hospital organizations regarding financial assistance policies (FAPs), emergency medical care policies, charges for care to those eligible for financial assistance and policies addressing billing and collections. In its letter, NAPH urged the IRS to allow government hospitals more flexibility in publicizing their FAPs, determining FAP eligibility and implementing FAPs.
