CMS Releases Information on the Medicare EHR Incentive Program 2012 Reporting Pilot - Aug. 14, 2012

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that more information is now available on the Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program 2012 Reporting Pilot for eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs). The Medicare EHR Incentive Program provides eligible hospitals and CAHs incentive payments for demonstrating meaningful use of EHR technology. The 2012 reporting pilot is a voluntary option for hospitals to electronically report the clinical quality measures (CQM) objective of the EHR Incentive Program and pioneer efforts for submitting CQM data electronically. Interested eligible hospitals and CAHs must submit a full year of CQM data between Oct. 1 and Nov. 30 to meet the requirements of the reporting pilot. Additionally, the calendar year (CY) 2013 outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS) proposed rule recommends extending this pilot program through CY 2013. Eligible hospitals and CAHs are encouraged to participate.
