HHS Announces Public Health Awards - Sept. 5, 2012

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced on Aug. 29 new investments aimed to strengthen the nation’s public health workforce. Through the Health Resources and Services Administration, HHS awarded $23 million in grants to 37 Public Health Training Centers. The grants aim to bolster the skills of the public health workforce and to provide training for current and future public health workers. A list of grant awardees, including numerous NAPH members, can be found online. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also will provide $25 million for fellowship programs. The support to the fellowship programs, which are similar to medical residencies, will also aid placement of fellows and expansion of training programs for public health workers.
