CBO Releases New Estimate of ACA - July 31, 2012

According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Supreme Court’s decision has lowered the cost of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by $84 billion over 11 years. CBO rescored the ACA after the Supreme Court made the Medicaid expansion effectively optional to states. In doing so, CBO assumed that some states would not take up the expansion, which would result in 6 to 10 million more uninsured between 2014 and 2019, compared with CBO’s March 2010 estimate.
