CMS Medicaid Director Announces States May Expand and Drop Later - Aug. 7, 2012

Cindy Mann, JD, Director of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services, said that states can expand Medicaid and then drop the expanded coverage as they choose at the National Conference of State Legislatures meeting on Monday. Mann also confirmed that states do not have to meet a deadline for deciding whether or not to expand. This announcement brings greater flexibility to states in weighing the options for Medicaid expansion per the Supreme Court’s decision on the Affordable Care Act.
