House Subcommittee Holds Hearing on Medicaid Overpayment - Sept. 25, 2012

The Health Care Subcommittee of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform held a hearing last week examining overpayment to state Medicaid programs. The hearing focused on New York state–operated developmental centers receiving more funds than other comparable centers and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS’) efforts to correct the problem. The issue was brought to Congress’ attention this summer by the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, who identified overpayment to several different state programs across the country. This hearing was the second one held to address the need for CMS to identify and prevent overpayments.
