Tampa General Hospital

As the primary teaching site for the University of South Florida College of Medicine, Tampa General is one of the most comprehensive medical facilities in West Central Florida serving a dozen counties. As the area’s only Level 1 trauma hospital and one of only four burn centers in Florida, Tampa General stands at the center of the region’s ability to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day. It operates four medical helicopters to transport critically injured patients from 23 surrounding counties. The hospital is home to one of the leading organ transplant centers in the country, having performed more than 6,000 adult solid organ transplants, including the state’s first heart transplant in 1985. Its 32-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit is the largest on the west coast of Florida.
