Parkland Health & Hospital System Helps Support Dallas Community

The Parkland Health & Hospital System, one of the largest public hospital systems in the country, is a major economic engine for Dallas County. It generates roughly 9,300 jobs and $2.8 billion a year in overall spending. Parkland’s physician training programs, medical practices and associated businesses stimulate $9.7 billion in spending and some 74,000 jobs in the Dallas community.

The health of the Dallas community, and its economy, depends on Parkland. The health system provides more than $520 million in uncompensated care annually and keeps the community healthy through its 11 Community Oriented Primary Care health centers and outreach programs aimed at education and prevention. Parkland operates a Level I Trauma Center, one of the largest civilian burn centers in the U.S., and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Parkland is the teaching hospital for the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, which spent $887.5 million in Fiscal Year 2004, creating more than $2.78 billion in business activity for the local and regional economies. Each dollar spent by UT Southwestern generates an additional $2.14 for the economy.

Parkland has been ranked as one of the country’s top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report for the last 15 years.
