NAPH members provide significant volumes of mental health care. They represent 2 percent of hospitals but provide 5 percent of the mental health beds in the country and in their local markets, provide 17 percent of the mental health beds. They operate some of the only psychiatric emergency rooms in their communities as well. Innovating in the provision of mental and behavioral health is part of how safety net hospitals meet the needs of the vulnerable patients that they serve.
