Diabetes

November marks National Diabetes Awareness month, a National Health Observance designed to recognize the toll diabetes takes on Americans, as well as to strengthen efforts to prevent and control the disease. According to the American Diabetes Association, nearly 24 million people in the US are living with diabetes, and an additional 57 million are at risk. One in three children born today will face a future with diabetes if current trends continue. Safety net hospitals and health systems are often the main point of care for the underserved populations disproportionately affected by diabetes. These hospitals are implementing innovative programs designed to improve outcomes and lessen disease prevalence through outreach and collaboration.
