NAPH Executive Director Chris Burch spoke to radio outlets across the country, emphasizing the important role of the safety net during the current economic recession. Since the beginning of the recession, safety net health systems have seen a rise in uninsured patients and have seen a rise in uncompensated care to low-income populations. Chris Burch highlighted the importance of "the experience of public hospitals and safety net health systems caring for vulnerable populations buring both good and bad economic times" and how that is "instrumental in moving towards a reformed heath care system."
