I was lucky enough to serve on a panel recently on how digital media is helping advance public health. Susannah Fox from Pew Research discussed the impact of digital media on chronic disease (among other things), I spoke about how our members are using social media, and Erin Enke from event organizer/health care communications firm TogoRun talked about the power of digital media in global public health campaigns.
My segment - in the middle - outlined how many of our hospitals are engaging on social networks to enhance the patient experience through personal relationships; boost emergency preparedness and response through advanced training videos and real-time updates for the public; and bolster patient and community outreach by engaging individuals. I use examples from The Ohio State University Medical Center, Contra Costa Health System, the University of California San Diego and University of Kentucky HealthCare.
The discussion was robust and could have gone on for hours! People had great questions - search #DigitalHealth on Twitter and you can scan through people’s thoughts. After watching the video below, please share your thoughts and examples!
