This three-and-a-half-minute interview with NAPH member Grady Health System’s Dr. Neil Winawer does a great job outlining a major issue affecting safety net hospitals across the country – emergency department crowding and closures. He notes that safety net hospitals - those treating a much higher proportion of Medicaid and Medicare patients - are at highest risk for closure. We should all echo and share Dr. Winawer’s final words - “Let’s keep the safety net hospitals open and support our local hospitals.”
