As the largest public health care system in the nation, HHC is involving all of our facilities (11 acute care hospitals, 6 diagnostic and treatment centers, 4 long term care facilities, and health and home care) in celebrating Patient Safety Awareness Week in sync with the National Patient Safety Foundation’s (NPSF) theme “Commit to Safe Health Care.”

We view the week as an opportunity to strengthen partnerships with our community and educate patients on how to become involved in their care, as well as an opportunity to educate, reinforce, and most of all thank all staff for their work in helping HHC advance its patient safety efforts.

Our Corporate activities include a Patient Safety Exposition, where facilities can display their exhibits and storyboards and be given an opportunity to demonstrate their outcomes and clinical measures through implementation of evidence-based practices. In addition, HHC is recognizing their Patient Safety Champions in an Awards Ceremony. Staff and/or teams from each facility who have served as a catalyst or change agent to transform the culture of safety within their facility have been nominated by their leadership for this prestigious recognition. Two of these champions are also recipients of the Presidents Award for outstanding contribution to Patient Safety in their facilities.
