Harris County Hospital District

The Harris County Hospital District (HCHD) in Houston, TX is the public health care system for the nation’s third most populous county. It includes 3 hospitals, 12 community health centers, 13 homeless shelter clinics, 8 school-based clinics, 5 mobile health clinics, a dialysis center and a free-standing dental center. HCHD’s hospitals and clinics serve as teaching facilities for two prestigious medical schools—Baylor College of Medicine and The University of Texas Medical School at Houston. As one of only two Level 1 Trauma Centers in the Houston area, HCHD’s Ben Taub General Hospital is the area’s busiest Emergency Center, treating more than 85,000 emergency patients a year, including psychiatric emergency care.
