About NAPH

The National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems represents America's safety net hospitals and health systems. These facilities provide high-quality health services for all patients, including the uninsured and underinsured, regardless of ability to pay. They provide many essential community-wide services, such as primary care, trauma care, and neonatal intensive care, and train many of America's doctors, nurses, and other health care providers. NAPH has cultivated a strong presence on Capitol Hill, and is the only national organization representing the interests of safety net hospitals and health systems before Congress and the Administration.   • The History of NAPH

    In 1981, the National Association of Public Hospitals (NAPH) formally opened its doors as an organization dedicated to advocating on behalf of public hospitals, particularly tackling the issues and concerns unique to safety net providers.

    The mission of NAPH is to provide national, regional and local advocacy on behalf of public and other hospitals and health systems, conduct research and analysis, and provide a host of related services needed by our members.

    After careful review and consideration of the challenges facing our association and its members, NAPH has identified three major strategic priorities that will guide our activities and member services: safety net financing, quality improvement and patient safety, and strengthening our influence.
