Sergio Vivanco, Hollywood, FL

Memorial Healthcare System
One Fort Lauderdale resident knows first-hand the importance of having a public hospital in their community. Sergio Vivanco, 78, underwent triple bypass surgery at a hospital near his home. While the operation was successful, the post-surgery care in the cardiac wing of that hospital was inferior, and Vivanco developed serious, life-threatening complications. After an extra 10 days of hospitalization and no improvement in his condition, Vivanco was transferred to Memorial Regional Hospital.
When he arrived, he had blood clots in his lung and leg. The staff there treated him promptly and professionally, and Vivanco has since made a full recovery. Vivanco and his wife felt so strongly about the excellent care they received at Memorial that they changed his insurance plan, left his former doctors, and even bought a home near Memorial.
“The best feeling,” says Sergio’s wife, Nancy, “is being close to Memorial, our hospital of choice. No matter what happens, we know we’ll be taken care of.”
