Deborah Davis, Atlanta, GA

Grady Health Center
Deborah Davis, 53, jogged a few blocks to the pharmacy near her home one evening to pick up a prescription. On the way there she was hit by a car and ended up landing in the middle of an intersection. She lost consciousness, and when she came to, she tried to get up but the pain in her foot was unbearable. When an ambulance arrived, Davis asked the driver to take her to the closest hospital, but the driver, seeing her leg, recommended Grady instead, because of its stellar reputation for trauma care. Once at Grady, she was told her foot would require surgery within eight hours to reduce the possibility of infection.
Deborah had her first surgery and was sent home. She elected to have a second orthopedic surgery at Grady because her initial experience was so positive. Once again, she received excellent care and has made a full recovery.
Her experience taught her the value of having a hospital like Grady in the community – for the thousands of people like her every year who are having an ordinary day and then find themselves in need of top-rate emergency care.
“I give thanks that I am in a city that has such an outstanding facility as Grady Memorial Hospital,” Deborah said. “No other hospital in the city can handle certain types of trauma.”
Grady includes a 953-bed Grady Memorial Hospital, nine neighborhood health centers, Crestview Health & Rehabilitation Center - and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding, which is operated as a Children's affiliate. With its nationally acclaimed Emergency Care Center and Burn Unit, Grady Health System has the only Level I trauma center in the region and serves as the ambulance provider for the city of Atlanta.
