Jeremiah Archuleta, 28, was riding in the back of a truck that suddenly slammed into the car ahead. Jeremiah was instantly thrown out of the truck and into the road. Paramedics from Denver Health responded immediately and treated his severe injuries – including a broken neck and an irregular heartbeat – at the Denver Health Emergency Department.
After the initial treatment and much followup care at Denver Health, Jeremiah made a full recovery. While he remembers little about the accident itself, he believes those who tell him that given the trauma suffered, he shouldn’t even be alive, and he credits the providers at Denver Health for literally saving his life.
Jeremiah said of this treatment at Denver Health, "I may not remember a lot, but I do know that the men and women of Denver Health saved my life. I truly believe that my accident happened for a reason. It gave me another take on life, and Denver Health gave me another chance at life."
Denver Health, the state's largest Medicaid provider, has provided more than $3.1 billion in care to the uninsured since 1991. In 2007, the Rocky Mountain Regional Trauma Center treated 1,900 severely injured patients from 49 counties in Colorado, along with patients from 35 other states who were flown there because of its reputation for exceptional trauma care.
