Gail Theurer, San Bernardino, CA

Arrowhead Regional Medical Center
While jogging one morning, Gail Theurer, 68, was attacked by rottweilers. Passerbys dragged Theurer to a house where paramedics were called. She was airlifted to ARMC, a Level II trauma center, and treated not only for trauma wounds but burn wounds too, since she had lost so much skin in the attack. Her multiple skin grafts were all 100% successful.
In addition to treating physical wounds, the doctors recognized Theurer’s post-traumatic stress disorder. During her recovery she was able to schedule visits with a psychiatrist right in her room.
Theurer still bears the physical and emotional scars of her attack, but she is living a full life thanks in large part to ARMC.
“Had the paramedics not taken me to Arrowhead, where they have both a Trauma and Burn center, I don’t think I would have recovered as quickly or as fully,” said Theurer. She continued by saying, “The care I received from every nurse and doctor was just superb.”
