States Receive Bonuses for Enrolling Children in Medicaid - January 12, 2011

Fifteen states recently received a combined total of $206 million for their efforts enrolling eligible children in Medicaid. On Dec. 27, 2010, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced the following states would receive “performance bonuses” for streamlining enrollment and renewal processes and documenting a significant increase in Medicaid enrollment across last year: Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Washington and Wisconsin. Funding for the “performance bonuses” was authorized under the Children’s Health Improvement Reauthorization Act of 2009 as part of a series of measures to help increase Medicaid enrollment among children.
