Congress Reauthorizes Ryan White CARE Act - October 27, 2009
The House and Senate have adopted legislation, S. 1793, the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Extension Act, to reauthorize the program, which expired on September 30, through federal fiscal year 2013. The bill increases funding for all CARE Act programs by five percent a year, requires all states to use a name-based reporting system to track HIV/AIDS patients by 2012, and extends hold-harmless protections to states and cities that would otherwise see a reduction in CARE Act funds. The legislation now awaits the president's signature.
