CMS Seeks Comment on Children's Health Care Quality Measures - January 5, 2010
As mandated by the Children's Health Insurance Reauthorization Act of 2010, CMS has issued an initial set of recommended children's health care quality measures for voluntary use by state Medicaid and CHIP programs, as well as Medicaid and CHIP managed care plans and providers. The 24 measures include measures relating to the quality of prevention and health promotion services, management of acute and chronic conditions, family experience, and access to care. Although this initial set of recommended measures is voluntary, states are required to report the state-specific quality measures they use on an annual basis beginning September 30, 2010. CMS is seeking comments on which measures should remain in the core set, which measures require further development, and the nature of technical assistance and other resources that state Medicaid and CHIP programs and providers need to implement and report on the measures. Comments on the proposed measures must be received by CMS no later than 5pm on March 1, 2010.
