President Obama Announces Initiatives to Get Veterans Back to Work - November 8, 2011

On Nov. 7, President Barack Obama was joined by leading veterans organizations to announce tax credits and initiatives aimed at helping veterans find jobs. The American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars showed their support for the Returning Heroes and Wounded Warriors Tax Credits. The tax credits – two of the provisions in the American Jobs Act, which Congress is scheduled to consider this week – provide incentives for employers to hire unemployed veterans or veterans who have service-connected disabilities. Along with these tax credits, President Obama announced three initiatives that will provide resources and career development support, along with the creation of a veterans job bank. NAPH supports these initiatives and urges member hospitals to post available positions on the veterans job bank. More information about these initiatives can be found at www.whitehouse.gov/vets.
