NAPH Submits Comments on CMS' IPPS FY 2010 Proposed Rule - June 23, 2009

On June 22, NAPH submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on its IPPS proposed rule for fiscal year 2010. In its letter, NAPH urged CMS to reconsider:

  • Significant cuts to hospital payments based on CMS’ imprecise estimate of real changes to case-mix;
  • The adoption of four new measures to the Annual Payment Update program that have not been determined to be ready for national implementation;
  • The elimination of the adjustment to capital payments currently provided to teaching hospitals.
NAPH urges hospitals to submit their own comments to CMS to further reinforce safety net hospitals’ concerns about these proposals. The deadline for doing so is 5 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, June 30. Comments may be submitted electronically at http://www.regulations.gov (enter the file code CMS-1406-P).
