ONC Issues Interim Final Rule Correcting EHR Standards - October 19, 2010

On Oct. 13, the federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) issued an interim final rule with request for comments revising its electronic health record (EHR) rules. Specifically, the interim final rule will remove the implementation specifications related to public health surveillance, which ONC determined were adopted in error. The rule is effective immediately, but stakeholders have until Nov. 12, 2010 at 5 PM EST to submit comments on the rule.
