HHS Announces Formation of Insurance Oversight Office - April 28, 2010
As part of the rollout of health reform, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on April 19 announced the formation of the Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight. The stated mission of the office is to provide leadership in the implementation of health reform provisions related to private health insurance. Among other duties, the office will design and administer the temporary high-risk pools, establish new rules on medical loss ratios and oversee the state-based health insurance exchanges. HHS has yet to announce a director for the new office.
