Kaiser Commission Report Finds Increased Medicaid Enrollment - February 23, 2010
A recent report by the Kaiser Commission found that, from June 2008 to 2009, every state in the nation saw an increase in the number of Medicaid enrollees. Nationwide, almost 3.3 million new individuals enrolled in Medicaid during that period, bringing the total number to 46.9 million, a 7.5% increase. The report notes that, despite the increased FMAP funding provided under the Recovery Act, the swelling of Medicaid rolls has put a strain on states, whose budgets have already been hit hard by the recession; and estimates that as many as 44 states in 2010 may have to cut their Medicaid budgets as a result.
