IOM to Study Best Practices for Improving Health Care Safety with HIT - October 5, 2010

On Sept. 29, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology announced it is awarding nearly $1 million to the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to study ways to improve patient safety with health information technology (HIT). Specifically, the study will investigate the effects that HIT has on patient safety and focus on ways to prevent HIT-related errors, as well as how to quickly report HIT-related patient safety issues. The study will conclude at the end of 2011.
