Congress Enacts Historic Health Care Reform Bill - March 23, 2010
On March 23, President Obama signed landmark legislation to reform our nation’s health care system. The presidential signature comes after House passage of the legislation on March 21 and Senate passage of the bill in December 2009. The health reform bill, the most important piece of health care legislation passed since the creation of Medicare and Medicaid in 1965, will provide health care coverage to 32 million people who would otherwise lack it, once fully implemented. The bill costs $940 billion over ten years, but is fully paid for. In fact, the Congressional Budget Office estimates that the bill will reduce the federal deficit by approximately $140 billion over the next ten years, and $1.2 trillion over the following ten years. NAPH praises the House of Representatives for passing this historic bill –the most comprehensive health care overhaul in decades. Click here to read the statement issued by NAPH President, Larry S.
