HHS Unveils Plans to Reduce Health Disparities Among Racial, Ethnic Minorities - April 12, 2011
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on April 8 unveiled a set of new plans to help reduce health disparities among racial and ethnic minorities. The HHS Action Plan focuses on HHS-wide initiatives that aim to close the gap in health disparities. Such initiatives would include efforts to increase the number of minority health care professionals and to train more individuals in medical interpretation services. The National Stakeholder Strategy for Achieving Health Equity, meanwhile, sets common goals for public and private sector initiatives to address racial disparities. Among the National Stakeholder’s objectives would be to encourage financing and reimbursement for medical interpretation services, in part by establishing incentives for hospitals to support such services.
