HHS Releases National Quality Strategy - March 23, 2011
On March 21, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on March 21 released a National Strategy for Quality Improvement in Health Care. The Affordable Care Act requires development of a National Quality Strategy to establish policies aimed at improving delivery of care, increasing health of the US population and reducing health care costs. The National Quality Strategy identifies a number of priorities including:
- promoting safer delivery of care
- engaging individuals and families in treatment
- improving communication and care coordination
- encouraging preventive care
- coordinating with communities to ensure healthy lifestyles
- increasing affordability of care
HHS notes the National Quality Strategy will continue to evolve as HHS works with stakeholders to identify specific goals and measurements for each of the priorities. More information on the National Quality Strategy is available
