HHS Releases Healthcare-Associated Infections Funding to State Survey Agencies - November 17, 2009

Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) Kathleen Sebelius has announced the release of $9 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to state survey agencies in 43 states. With these funds, state survey agencies will survey approximately 1,300 ambulatory surgical centers that are not accredited by CMS-approved private accrediting organizations. This latest release of ARRA healthcare-associated infection (HAI) funding is in addition to $40 million in funding that CDC previously provided to state public health departments to establish or expand state HAI prevention and surveillance efforts.
