HHS Announces up to $137 Million for State Public Health and Prevention Efforts - August 30, 2011

U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced on Aug. 25 that HHS will be awarding up to $137 million in grants to states for improving their public health infrastructure and expanding their public health workforce. The grants are largely from the Affordable Care Act’s Prevention and Public Health Fund and may be put toward public health laboratories, tobacco cessation services, immunization information technology, emerging infections programs, health care–associated infectious disease prevention, and substance abuse screening and prevention efforts.
