States Encouraged to Seek Funding to Stem Bloodstream Infections in Hospitals - July 27, 2010

On July 20, the American Hospital Association’s Health Research & Educational Trust announced that it would soon begin distributing a total of $5.8 million of Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) funds for the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP), which aims to reduce central line-associated bloodstream infections in hospitals. CUSP already operates in 30 states and over 1,100 hospital units. The additional funds will allow participating and new states to apply for up to $70,000 over a two-year project period to cover part-time staffing needs. AHRQ is also providing supplemental funding for the program.
