Follow-Up with CMS on DSH Rule Impact and Questions - 6/19/09
On June 10, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) held a conference call for NAPH members to review the Medicaid DSH Auditing and Reporting Rule. CMS staff acknowledged that the rule implements policy changes that could impact hospitals—in particular the change in the definition of uninsured—and expressed interest in hearing from providers about the nature and magnitude of this impact. This same data is critical to NAPH's ability to successfully engage members of Congress in the effort to delay implementation of the rule and reverse those policy changes. The September deadline for audit reports is drawing near. Please send your impact data to Xiaoyi Huang, xhuang@naph.org, for submission to CMS and use in our advocacy efforts as soon as possible.
In addition, CMS staff is compiling a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding the DSH rule. NAPH members on the call asked several questions that have prompted further consideration by CMS. If you would like to submit additional questions, please send them directly to Cheryl Powell at Cheryl.Powell@CMS.hhs.gov as soon as possible.
