Farzad Mostashari Named New Director of ONC - April 12, 2011

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on April 8 announced Farzad Mostashari, MD, as the new director of the Office of the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology (ONC), effective immediately. Mostashari has been with ONC since July 2009 as the Deputy National Coordinator for Programs and Policy. Previously, he was Assistant Commissioner for the Primary Care Information Project at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Mostashari replaces David Blumenthal, MD, who is departing ONC after two years as its director, reportedly so he could return to his academic pursuits at Harvard University.
