Senate makes one last attempt on FMAP provision before recess - August 2, 2010

The Senate will consider an extension of the increased FMAP (Federal Medical Assistance Percentage) for states one more time today. The FMAP provision would extend the increased FMAP from the economic recovery bill at a reduced base enhancement percentage -- 3.2% for the first quarter of 2011, and at 1.2% for the second quarter of FY 2011. The current base enhancement is 6.2% above baseline. "High unemployment states" will continue to receive an additional enhancement. Senate Majority Leader Reid (D-NV) is expected to take up the FMAP provisions along with some education provisions in a bill that is fully paid for some time later today. If the Senate bill were to pass, the House would have to pass it when they return from their recess which started last week and lasts until September 13.

The Senate is expected to vote on Elena Kagan’s nomination to the Supreme Court either Thursday or Friday. The Senate will recess later this week and will not return until September 13 when the Summer District Work Period or recess is over.
