HHS Advisory Committee on Minority Health Releases Report on Addressing Disparities in Health Reform - October 13, 2009

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Advisory Committee on Minority Health sent a report to Secretary Kathleen Sebelius urging the application of 14 principles and three related overarching recommendations to ensure that health reform will meet the needs of minority communities and create infrastructure to eliminate health disparities. Included among the principles is preservation of a robust safety net (Principle 9) and delivery system redesign to improve access for minority and vulnerable communities by, among other things, encouraging care coordination for minority and vulnerable populations (Principle 6). To that end, the report specifically describes NAPH’s Coordinated Care Network Proposal as complementary to proposals to create Medicare Accountable Care Organizations.
