Deadlines Approaching for New HIT Grants - December 8, 2009

On December 3, HHS released $235 million in ARRA funding to establish the Beacon Community Program to strengthen HIT infrastructure and exchange. Grants of $10 to $20 million will be awarded to 15 non-profit organizations or government entities representing geographic health care communities. Letters of intent are due January 8, 2010, and applications are due February 1, 2010. More details are available in the funding announcement. In addition, HHS has released $10 million for grants to institutions of higher education to support HIT curriculum development, for which Letters of Intent are due January 4, 2010. Preliminary applications for the second round of Regional Extension Center grants are due December 22, 2009. More details on currently available HIT grants are available on the HHS website.
