CMS Issues IPPS Proposed Rule, Includes Provisions Implementing Hospital Readmissions Program and More - April 27, 2011

The federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on April 19 issued the inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) proposed rule for fiscal year 2012, which includes provisions to implement the Affordable Care Act’s readmissions reduction program and an update to the Hospital Inpatient Value-Based Purchasing proposed rule. The IPPS proposed rule also calls for payment reductions of $498 million under the IPPS. CMS will accept comments on its proposed rule through June 20.
