Nominations Deadline Approaching! AHRQ Seeks Nominations for National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality - April 12, 2011

The federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) seeks private-sector nominations for the National Advisory Council for Healthcare Research and Quality. The Council advises the secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the director of AHRQ on issues related to quality, safety, efficiency and effectiveness of health care. It provides a varied perspective on the health care system and contributes important guidance on AHRQ research priorities to improve the quality, outcomes and cost-effectiveness of clinical practice. The 21 private-sector experts represent health care plans, providers, purchasers, consumers and researchers.

Potential participants should possess the following qualifications:

  • Expertise in health care research, demonstration projects and evaluations
  • Experience in the field of health care quality research or improvement
  • Distinction in the practice of medicine, health care economics, information systems, law, ethics, business, public policy or other health care professions
  • Ability to represent the private health care sector, administrators of health care delivery systems, or patients and consumers of health care
The terms of the seven current members will expire November 2011. Seven new members will be appointed by the HHS secretary to begin service in the spring of 2012. The Council meets in the Washington, DC area approximately three times a year. Members serve for a three-year term. AHRQ supports travel and hotel expenses for meetings requiring travel.
